If you’re dreaming of an unforgettable family holiday, Lanzarote should be at the top of your list. Known for its unique volcanic landscapes, stunning beaches, and family-friendly activities, this Canary Island is perfect for an all-inclusive holiday that offers more than just relaxation by the pool. We booked an all-inclusive holiday in Lanzarote with our kids through TUI, and after just a few days, we couldn’t resist hiring a car to explore everything the island has to offer.

Why We Chose Lanzarote for Our Family Holiday

Lanzarote, one of the Canary Islands, offers a warm, sunny climate year-round, making it perfect for escaping the cold. What really sold us was how compact the island is—you can explore most of it in just a few days without feeling rushed. Plus, the volcanic landscapes are like something out of a sci-fi movie, which our kids found fascinating. Add in beautiful beaches, fun waterparks, and kid-friendly attractions, and we knew we’d made the right choice.

Getting Around: Car Hire in Lanzarote with Kids

We quickly realised that hiring a car was the best way to see the island. The roads are smooth, traffic is light, and everything is clearly signposted. We picked up our rental from the airport, which was super convenient. Timanfaya National Park: Lanzarote’s Must-See Volcano Experience

This place blew our minds! The landscape feels like you’ve landed on Mars. The kids loved the bus tour through the craters and lava fields, and watching the ground “erupt” during the geothermal demonstrations was a hit. We even ate at El Diablo Restaurant, where they cook food using volcanic heat—how cool is that?

Cueva de los Verdes – Discover Lanzarote’s Lava Caves

These lava caves were an unexpected highlight. The guided tour felt like an underground adventure, and there’s a surprise twist at the end (don’t worry, I won’t spoil it!). Our toddler had a blast pretending we were on a dinosaur hunt. It’s dark and mysterious—perfect for curious little explorers.

Exploring El Golfo and the Green Lagoon

El Golfo is a small fishing village with one of the coolest natural sights—the Green Lagoon. The contrast of the vivid green water against the black sand is wild. There’s an easy walking path to a great viewpoint, and we wrapped up the day with fresh seafood at a local restaurant. The kids loved exploring the rock pools on the beach.

  • Playa Blanca: Calm waters, soft sand, and plenty of places to grab an ice cream.

The market in Teguise was a great change of pace. It’s huge, with loads of handmade crafts, local goodies, and souvenirs. The kids enjoyed the street performers, and we loved wandering the cobbled streets of the old town. It’s lively, colourful, and full of local charm.

  • La Graciosa Island: Take a ferry from Órzola to this tranquil island. It’s car-free, with beautiful beaches and crystal-clear waters—perfect for a peaceful family day out.
  • Fuerteventura: Just a short ferry ride from Playa Blanca, Fuerteventura boasts stunning beaches and sand dunes. Corralejo Natural Park is a highlight, with its rolling dunes and family-friendly vibe.
