If like us you have a Lego wild pre-schooler, then you should already know about Legoland Windsor. We recently spent the day exploring Legoland with our almost 4-year-old and 5-month-old baby. It was truly one of the most exciting and memorable days out. Just seeing the excitement on Roman’s face as we walked around was worth it. In this blog post, I want to break down everything you need to know when visiting Legoland. Our full Legoland Windsor review for the ultimate day out and what to expect.
Best ages for Legoland Windsor
Legoland is a theme park aimed at a younger audience. The most ideal ages to visit Legoland would be between 4-11, this is because they will likely meet the minimum height of 0.9m and be allowed on all the rides.
Children aged between 2-4 would also enjoy Legoland even if they don’t meet the height requirement, as there is still lots to do. DUPLO Valley and the Enchanted Forest are suitable for this age as both are aimed at preschoolers. There is also a couple of rides that have no height or age restriction on them.
How much does Legoland Windsor cost?
Adult and child tickets are the same as they are based on height – On the day tickets are from £62pp and online advanced tickets are from £32pp
Discounts – Lots of companies such as Kelloggs and The Sun offer 2 for 1 voucher or adults go free so always check beforehand.
Midweek adult and pre-schooler tickets – We booked using this offer,if you are attending with a child who isn’t in full-time school it’s £25 Monday – Friday for 1 adult and 1 child aged 4 and under.
Children under 90cm are free
Car park: £8 for standard parking (£7 if you pre-book) and £16 for priority parking (£13 if you pre-book)
How to save money on Legoland Windsor tickets
Legoland as a family day out can be an expensive day out. The good news is you can definitely find ways to save money.
- Visit off-peak if you can, you can get tickets such as the £25 toddler and adult combined tickets
- Legoland Annual Passes, If you plan on returning you may want to buy a Legoland Annual Pass. An adult and toddler pass is just £49, Silver passes start from £99 and the gold £119
- Merlin Annual Pass, Merlin owns 30 UK attractions including Sea Life, Chessington, Madame Tussauds and Alton Towers. Passes aren’t cheap, however, If you plan on visiting multiple attractions within the year then they are worth the money. Prices start from £89 per person for a Discovery Pass to £299 per person for a Platinum Pass each with different perks and discounts.
- Kelloggs ticket offers, at different times of the year Kelloggs offer 2 for 1 or free adult tickets on selected products. Most of them will cost you a couple of pounds so the saving is quite significant.
- Sun Savers, keep an eye out on the Sun newspaper. They often do these deals where you collect codes in their newspapers and once you have a certain amount you can then apply for free tickets.
How long do I need at Legoland Windsor?
You will definitely need a full day. We arrived at opening and left at closing our days hours were 10 am-5 pm and we still didn’t get to do everything. As with most theme parks, lots of time is wasted queuing for certain popular rides. There are also many things with no queues or very small queues. I would recommend downloading the Legoland App before arriving as this gives you updates on queue times and distances.
We both agreed that next time we go we would definitely book to stay in one of the hotels. We could then allow ourselves 2 days to fully enjoy everything in the park.
Legoland Windsor Hotels
There are two on-site hotels you can choose from; these can be extremely pricey. The hotels include park tickets as well as special treats, such as Lego gifts for the kids. There are also hotels in surrounding areas that can either be booked through the Legoland website as a package or directly.
Onsite hotels –
Located right in the heart of Legoland with a direct entrance into the theme park. Take your pick of one of their themed rooms including a Pirate, Kingdom or Adventure themed room as well as the popular Ninjago and lego friends rooms.
A slightly more premium option than the Legoland Resort, the castle hotel provides easy access to the park. Also offering themed rooms, choose whether you are a knight or wizard for the night. The rooms also have a separate sleeping area for children inside the room which is always a plus.
Our favourite rides and attractions
We rode as much as we could within our time there, some rides even twice. Roman only being 3 (almost 4) there were a few rides he was weary of and decided not to ride on. However, these were minimal. There were also a couple of rides that the queues were too long for his patience so we skipped.
- Haunted House Monster Party Ride – This was our favourite, watch a fun clip about a nutty lego professor before taking your seat in the dining hall for a disco. we were extremely confused and honestly don’t know how it works though!
- Legoland Express – take the colourful train around the park, this is suitable for all heights
- Duplo Dino Coaster – a fun DUPLO dino colourful rollercoaster, the queues on this are long but a worthwhile introduction to coasters.
- Lego City Driving School – there are 2 options, we did the under 1.1m version (there’s also an over 1.1m version) basically just toddlers crashing into each other on a pretend road, but they get a pretend driver’s license at the end!
- Deep-Sea Adventure – our second favourite ride, and also no height or age restriction so we took our baby on too. Climb down into a yellow submarine that rides around an underwater aquarium with sharks and fish.
What are the queues like at Legoland?
Be prepared to wait for the busier, more popular rides. We visited on an inset day so the park was extremely busy rides on our day had queues of 30-40 minutes. As a result, we were aiming for only 5-10 minute wait times for the rides. Downloading the Legoland app is a must as it gives you the live queue times for each ride.
5 Get there when the park opens or as early as you can. Remember, though, that the park may open 30 mins before the first ride starts – you don’t want to spend the first 30 mins standing in a non-moving queue.
Is it worth buying Reserve and Ride at Legoland Windsor?
If you are visiting on a weekend, school holiday or bank holiday, yes. However, it can get very expensive if you are visiting as a family so weigh up the cost vs rides. Passes start from £15 for the regular reserve and ride passes up to £70 for the Ultimate. Ultimate passes offer no wait times so you get on rides faster.
They work by using your mobile phone, Reserve & Ride enables you to wait for a ride virtually. Then you’ll get a ping when it’s your turn and you head straight to the front.
Food and drink at Legoland Windsor
As you would probably imagine there are lots of choices when it comes to food and drink at Legoland.

There are also lots of picnic spots dotted around the park so you can bring your own picnic for a cheaper day out.
What to bring to Legoland
Lightweight pushchair – There is a lot of walking in a day at Legoland. The park is spread out and a pram comes in handy for little legs. By the end of our day, we actually took the baby out of the stroller to carry him and chucked our 3-year-old in! There is plenty of buggy parking outside rides and in sections of the park for you to leave it whilst you explore.
Clothing – Check the forecast before you set off, You will be outside most of the day so pack your suncream and hats for warm days and waterproofs for the rain. Don’t forget your most comfy shoes as you’ll definitely get your steps in.
